MMP: What a blessing!

What a blessing!

It's worth reminding ourselves, at this stage in the election cycle, of the single most thrilling and beneficial parts of the MMP system delivered us by our ancestors.

No, it's not overhang. Or coalition. Or tails wagging dogs.

It's a unique moment, but it's important. Because it's at this stage -- the period between the election and a new mongrel government being sworn in, ideally months from now -- that the real boon of MMP emerges.

For it is in this beatific interregnum that we can for one brief moment enjoy peace. Tranquility. Calm. No new laws made to be broken. No politicians on your screen making promises made to be ignored. No jostling and sniping from parties with not a cigarette paper's worth of difference between them.

Just ill-informed punditry from a mathematically challenged commentariat. And peace. Blessed peace.

For as the Libertarianz once reminded you all, there's no government like no government -- or at most a caretaker administration barely ticking things over.

What a blessing.

Enjoy it while you can.
