New blog: Brash + Mitchell

There's a 'new' blog in town, and it's called Brash + Mitchell.

It's not entirely new, of course. With the thankful departure of Michael Bassett and Rodney Hide, their old blog of Bassett, Brash + Hide has become Brash + Mitchell -- that's Don Brash and Lindsay Mitchell to you.

I have no idea why Bassett and Hide departed, but I'm glad they've gone.

Without them we might expect the blog to be both more principled, less self-congratulatory -- and certainly less wet.

And since Lindsay Mitchell's solo blog is so criminally under-read, here's hoping her writing will attract a much wider audience.

I commend it to your attention:

Self congratulatory? Hell yes: Bassett can rarely finish a paragraph without a sentence beginning "When I was a minister..."
Yet if your memory is long enough, you'll remember (in perhaps the only significant thing he actually did as a minister) that it was Michael Bloody Bassett that started the process of folding small local government into the bigger more statist monoliths they are now.
And Hide, well, for all his talk when outside government, when he did get his feet under the cabinet table he was then responsible for the biggest statist intervention in Auckland's history, finishing off what Bassett had begun -- spending his energy on Frankensteining together Auckland councils' various body parts, at John Key's behest, instead abolishing Sandra Lee's Local Government, as he should have done given the chance.
No wonder his party imploded.
No wonder the sad prick had to leave town.

It's all very well, except Brash thinks Russia was provoked to invade Ukraine and thinks NZ and China should just be friends and NZ shouldn't take a stance against its long list of aggressive behaviour.

Ah. I hadn't realised he'd succumbed to full-on idiocy too. Shame.
I'll have to just leave it then that I hope it gives Lindsay a much wider readership.
