So ... Golriz [updated]

I hate pile-ons.

And I think we should always presume innocence until or unless guilt is proven.

Based on media stories I see folk nonetheless insisting that she should resign -- even before her guilt is nailed down.

I think this is a mistake.

The best result is not Golriz’s resignation -- which would just put another Green MP's arse in the same seat.

The best result is for her to brazen it out with her damaged reputation , and for the Green Party to further damage theirs in trying to defend her/cover for her. That looks more like a win-win to me.

That said, she is still innocent until proven guilty …

This is the thing, anything they say in her defence (unless this really all is a huge mistake) will be more damaging to them than keeping quiet - which has been most of the strategy to date.

The “pile on “ has been embarrassing to rational folk on social media. We seem to be getting like the US

There was reasonable doubt perhaps when the first allegation first came out, but not now. Even in the unlikely event the allegations now from 2 different sources represent either a conspiracy against her or coincidental mistakes, and we ignore the security footage evidence; the response to false allegations would be to deny them, not to refrain from comment as she's done.

If you believe that capitalism is evil and that capitalists should be enslaved for your benefit, it stands to reason you'd have no moral qualms about stealing from high end fashion stores.

The first question that should be asked of Golriz, assuming she is found guilty, and given she has stated she wants to take full accountability for her actions, is how many other times did she shoplift in her life, and where, when, and why?
