FRIDAY MORNING RAMBLE: The No Mo Fomoco Edition

Australian (and New Zealand unionists boast how Australian unions have made labour rates in Australia among the world’s highest.  Perhaps they should also reflect how they’ve made Australian manufacturing among the world’s most uncompetitive. So much so that even billions of dollars in government subsidies—amounting to tens of thousands of dollars per car—isn’t enough to save car manufacturing in Australia.  Or any manufacturing at all…

But who in the end killed the Ford Falcon and the Holden Commodore? You did, consumers did, because in the end you just stopped buying them…

Labour and the Lib Dems don't care about eliminating poverty, and the Tories and UKIP don't care about free markets—and they are as one when it comes to demonising immigrants. Why? Because foreigners can’t vote.

The failure of the Auckland Plan to reflect the simple aspirations of Aucklanders for home ownership and predominantly low-rise suburban lifestyles and promote instead the lofty compact city vision held by its planners and policy-makers made its unravelling inevitable. PS: Before leaping into print with ignorant statements about "Muslim immigrants": No, the Woolwich barbarians were not born in England, but they were radicalised there, just like other British-born jihadists. And, no, the Boston bombers weren't born in the States, but they were radicalised there too--as were other American-born jihadists.

The problem, dear reader, is not Muslim immigration--because these brainwashed bastards didn't come in as Muslims, did they. They problem is Jihad, it's the Koran itself, and the west's big problem in dealing with it effectively is the will to name it for what it is, to shame it for the barbarity it represents, and to shame those Muslims who give jihad tacit support.

The other problem, of course, which holds back the adoption by new Britons and new Americans from fully adopting the culture of their new homeland (as the mass immigrants of the nineteenth centuries did) is the pathetically fawning notion so prevalent in both western countries that they need to apologise for western culture. Why the fuck would any new immigrant want to adopt a culture whose own supposed adherents don't appear to want to stand up for it?

The hideous AU was the death knell for the Falcon - the graph clearly shows what a catastrophe it was, and it never recovered, no matter what they did with the replacements.

There was a change of taxation regime at the time the AU was introduced. There were also significant legislative changes that had a major effect on the sales of, in particular, Ford's sedan, manufacturing plant, material stream and supplier chain. This was not encountered by GMH to the same extent. Ford never recovered. GM sales varied- good and bad.

You are right about the AU styling being an issue, but it was one of several factors. AU was an odd looking car when compared to the Commodore of the time. This did cost them some sales, especially when the motoring writers launched a campaign denigrating the looks of the AU. One well known motor noter ended up getting hinmself the sack over an article he penned.

The most interesting story about AU is how the car came to be styled as it was. Sparing you all the fascinting details, in brief the storey is this. Originally FoMoCo were going to do an update of the EL which was a handsome car. Unfortunately the chief stylist decided to depart Australia with a beautiful (and hugely wealthy) lady he'd met. The new appointee had been successful in detail work and in interpretation of other designers main renderings. He was not so strong in styling a car from inception. The fateful decision was made to alter the schedule of model development and go for an entirely new looking car. AU was the result. How the decision came to be made is an interesting story but were it repeated here someone would likely get into trouble.

From your Aussie mate,

Ocker

Well said Peter, I agree with pretty much everything you have said here. This shame and guilt over our magnificent culture has gone too far. The idea that we need to accommodate the values of immigrants who come here but that they are welcome to ignore ours is plainly stupid.

May I also note that good old 'Bomber' as already written a typically misguided piece on the daily blog claiming that the media only labels non-white violence as terrorism (blatant lie, Anders Brevik for example, was white and his act was universally condemned as terrorism) and then makes some claim that the British culture is still dominant throughout the UK. Living here in London right now, I can assure him that this is not the case in the capital. The culture varies between tube stops but is overwhelmingly Islamic in so many areas (East Ham, Bradford, Kilburn and Wembley to name but a few). Why this has been allowed to have happened is beyond me and why I am made to feel uncomfortable to be white in my large areas of my city of birth is also distressing.
Perhaps Bomber should actually travel beyond his Auckland bubble before prattling on about bullshit he doesn't understand.

Keep up the good work Libz, I'm sure the population will wake up to the threat of Islam to our culture and way of life sooner rather than later.

The add clearly shows the problem with Falcon. A man that doesn't turn away from women when taking a roadside piss is doomed to be rendered obsolete by the law of simple decency so there goes the market.

Ford Europe could see this and slipped in the Mondeo which has gradually icreased in size to replace Falcon for most people.

Or not. Izvestia reported that Tamerlan attended a Jamestown workshop in the summer of 2012, and that the purpose was to promote instability and extremism is southern Russia.

Tamerlan's uncle Ruslan Tsarni was married to the daughter of Graham Fuller, who was involved in a program of using Muslim militants to advance US interests.

Afghanistan against [the Russians]. The same doctrines can still be used to
destabilize what remains of Russian power, and especially to counter the
