"Intellectual honesty ..."

"Intellectual honesty consists in taking ideas seriously. To take ideas seriously means that you intend to live by, to practice, any idea you accept as true."
~ Ayn Rand, from her article 'Philosophical Detection,' collected in her book Philosophy Who Needs It?

* I don't have a link for the article, sorry. But if you have an hour-and-a-half, Don Watkins and James Valliant discussion Rand's article 'Philosophical Detection' here.

Yes, but not just to live according to something you already think is true - but to always be on the lookout for new truths you haven’t yet formulated. Even when they cause you some discomfort, because they conflict with your existing views or those of others. The payoff in the longer term for maintaining this integrity far exceeds the short term discomfort.
