Breathing fire on Nanny's census

The Wellington firebreather made short work of a stack of census forms tonight at the Botanic Gardens Soundshell, doing what he does best in front of a crowd of forty or so that included a group of scouts chanting "Burn, Census, Burn!"

I trust a few other 'barbeques' also went as planned.

I successfully avoided getting a form. I almost feel sorry now that I had nothing to burn.

There ought to be some sort of anti-census organisation to publicize it more and fight if anyone is prosecuted.

I could be in trouble if someone chooses to create workcamps for people of Gaelic-Scottish-Kiwi ethnicity. Maybe I should have pciked Pict?

And if anyone is looking for deeper analysis on those who travelled to work in a gyroscope, then give me a bell - I can organise a meeting with a close friend of mine.

rick: all well and good, but better if it was some group not directly associated with the any particular political party. Maybe organise groups to go out and beat census-takers with sticks, things like that :)

Well, they're certainly publicising that "people who refuse to take part in the census will be punished", aren't they? I wonder if that indicates that they know a lot of people are against it? They're claiming it's a $500 fine plus court costs plus $20 a day until you give in. I can't find the text of the Statistics Act on the web, and don't have a library handy, but I'm pretty sure it says $250, and nothing about ongoing fines (anybody near a good library can go check?). And for those who say just fill it out with wrong information, I'm also pretty sure the fine for providing false data is higher than for not providing it at all.

Nah. If you're refusing for any other reason than the Libz one you're not really refusing at all. Cryogenic Hamiltonians and "I'm a work of art" Christchurchers...we don't want to 'get down' with those nobs.

Maybe organise groups to go out and beat census-takers with sticks, things like that :)

That'll send mixed messages though since the Statistical Army is already employing exactly that!

Well, that's where I disagree. My goal is not to sit around with people who sha
re my reasoning, though that would be nice, but to win the battle, and to do tha
t you can't have this sectarian "if you don't see things my way, you can't play with my ball" devisiveness; it's counterproductive.

As for the "mixed messages", not at all: I'm only half serious, but the fact is, they're initiating agression, thus denying themselves any right to complain when we turn it back on them. If we beat census-takers with sticks - we don't have to really hurt them - the "Statistical Army" will have more trouble finding recruits next time around; and when they can't get people to do the job, they either pack up and go home or show their true colours and start conscripting people - either way, we win.

Oh I see, the "census-takers" and the "Statistacal Army" are the same thing. Thought you wanted to beat the population!

Yes, I do think the image of these government henchmen could use some blackening.

to win the battle, and to do that you can't have this sectarian "if you don't see things my way, you can't play with my ball" devisiveness;

But you must! It needs to be for the same principle, because it's on the principled battleground that we must win. Some motly crew of census dissenters might win their way & end the compulsion but that's worthless in itself. The process is more important than the result.

But if it's personality cult subculture you're talking about with the "my ball" thing, then yes I agree. But it ought to be possible to create a group without that failing.
