I was interested that the Han dynasty [ 206BC to 220 AD] attempted variations of private ownership, or control of land. .
First they wanted to curb the power of nobles and the wealthy . No matter what they did , eventually sale and exchange of land caused wealthy groups and also near slave workers and tenants. Much poverty and slavery was also because of ludicrously high taxes.
Then Emperor Wang Mang from his new dynasty abolished purchase and sale of land, dividing up the now State land to peasant control. It did not work, he had to repeal the reform within three years, he was overthrown and killed and the Han dynasty was quickly re-established.
Surprise surprise some people become wealthy, others became poor tenants. Nearly 200 years later Mao Zedong discovered the 'Great leap backwards ' and starved, and maltreated about 30 million Chinese to death with State control and ownership of land. .
Should read above Mao Zedong nearly 2000 [ not 200 ] , two thousand years later re introduced State ownership ..... etc
