Faking austerity in the Eurozone

Friend Keith Weiner points out that all the mainstream pundits say "austerity does not work." What they don't admit it is that it hasn't been tried yet:

  1. Austerity works where it has been tried.

Austerity was tried a little in NZ in 1991, and in the UK in the 80s - although all those changes have been undone and need to be done again...

Any society that provides "free" healthcare, "free" education, "free" superannuation, public transport, and general policing is simply not austere
