Rodney Hide answers questions on the proposed Auckland super-city. At least, that’s what the Herald promises. Sadly, he doesn’t.
As Liberty Scott points out, he gets at least one question wrong and, more importantly, he evades the absolute, fundamental core issue -- what should be the role of local government in Auckland? – and doesn’t even bother answering two simple questions that honest ACT supporters should be asking:
- Why are you not following ACT party policy, which promises to abolish the local government power of general competency, and require councils to focus on their core functions?
- If an ACT Minister of Local Government is just going to maintain the Labour/Alliance/Green policy, then what was the point?
Answers on a postcard, please.

Rodney is facing political oblivion at the next advance auction of stolen goods unless he starts to push deregulation and a massive scaling back of Big Local Gummint, and soon.
This was going ahead anyway...National wants it.Act can try to get the best from the situation...a rates cap and regulatory responsibility bill etc..
Better than nothing..
At the very least this should have been accompanied by a restriction on entering any new commercial activities, and a rates cap.
It's a fail James. It isn't better than nothing, as it achieves nothing but concentrates 8 fully empowered entities into 1. More efficient ability to waste ratepayers' money and take risks on everyone's behalf.
What is one Auckland better than?
Is it correct that the ACT is merely another socialist rabble in spite of rhetoric to the contrary?
