Supply and demand

Through hard work and incredible diligence the NZ Police have pushed up the price of cannabis, ensuring better prices for dealers, and ensured demand for harder drugs will soar. (In the jargon, they’re ensured a leftward shift of the cannabis supply curve, and a positive substitution effect for harder drugs.) News here.

  1. I'd love to see how they came up with the estimate of $300m of "socio-economic harm".

=rand()*500,000,000 maybe? Good old media just reports it rather than questioning anything.

  2. And Iw onder how much of that harm is caused by sending PEOPLE TO FUCKING JAIL!!!!

    Stupid bloody war on drugs.

The gangs and criminal underworld will be smiling as they think of the police doing all that unpaid work for them to raise the retail price of drugs and thus increase gang profits.
