Chewing gum for the eyes [updated]

Annie Fox is having a go at the box.  She’s sick of ads that are too loud, too frequent and too aggressive.  She’s sick of programmes between the ads that aren’t worth turning off the mute button to watch.  And she’s welcoming RobiNZ to the "this pisses me off" brigade with a post bagging every single New Zealand quiz show because they’re all absolutely appalling.

One could tentatively suggest she just watches less TV, couldn’t one?  Television is just chewing gum for the eyes, and it sounds like the chewing gum is more more indigestible now than ever before.

UPDATE:  Speaking of the “this pisses me off” brigade, Cactus Kate is seriously contemplating carrying a sealed dummy for other people's howling children.  Makes sense.

What pisses me off is that every ad break, at least one ad is some social engineering propaganda that we've been forced to pay for. Don't smoke, don't drink, don't drive fast/drunk/tired/round corners, don't shout at people, don't bla bla bla bla. Can't even get away from it on the TV you've already paid for.

And I am watching less TV - but if I can't read a book, then TV does provide me with a good distraction from thinking and talking about cancer all the time.

Not working sucks.

It's not TV as a media that's at fault. There's some brilliant TV but often we don't see it at all - seen QI with Stephen Fry? - or they ruin it with needless promotions.
Most annoying is the moronic "This is what is on next" in the credits.

That moronic "This is what is on next" in the credits is useful to hook morons into watching your next adinfested offering: its all good business.

Here's and idea: fatso.co.nz all the movies you can eat, plus no ads, unlive pause, rewind if they mumble, etc. I don't have it myself, but I'm told it's good service...
