Sincere condolences to Defence Minister Phil Goff, whose nephew Matthew Ferrara was killed in Afghanistan. News here and here.

Keep fresh the grass upon his grave,
O Rotha, with thy living wave!
Sing him thy best! for few or none
Hears thy voice right, now he is gone.
- Matthew Arnold

  1. Yes, rather a sad occurrence for Mr Goff.

Seems he was a rather impressive sort of chap.
The NZ Herald reports he was 9th in his class at West Point! something which is difficult to achieve.

  2. Being a member of a volunteer army is a noble but risky profession. This fine chap was joining the fight against the al-Qaeda-motivated Taliban.

He laid down his life for all of us in the secular West.

Sincere condolences to Goff & his family.
