Eve - Cody Swanson, 2006

The winner of last year's Art Renewal Center's "purchase prize," this is Eve by sculptor Cody Swanson.

You can just tell what this lady is thinking about . . .

Entries for this year's scholarship awards close soon just closed. Sorry.

I wonder how many New Zealand art schools would qualify?

Requirements:

"To be eligible for an ARC Scholarship you must be accepted or presently enrolled in an ARC approved program for the 2007 fall term. There is a list of approved programs available on the website at the ARC Approved Ateliers page."

Scholarship FAQ:

"10. Who should NOT apply?

This competition is not open to work inspired by abstract, conceptualist, neo-conceptual or non-traditional works. These include genres such as Abstract Expressionism, Cubism, Constructivism, Dada, Fauvism, Futurism, Minimalism, Modernism, Post-Modernist, Op Art, Pop Art, Found Art and related modernist genres."

"11. Is my college or university program approved by the ARC?

Students who are enrolled at colleges or universities usually do not qualify to apply.

For the most part, the contemporary visual arts curriculum offered through colleges, art colleges and university programs focus first and foremost on novelty and individual "expression" at the expense of the mastery of technique and method."

Novelty and individual "expression" - That says it all, doesn't it?

Thanks for linking to this competition PC. I think you've helped fire Jasmine up. She was really demoralized, and she just about put her hand through the wall when she read the above paragraph. You see, she's been enduring an 'art' course at a local NZ institute, and learnt firsthand how true that quote is.

Cheers
Julian

Looks like she ate too many apples to get that fat.

A lot of those creatures actually look like her. They're called "women". Look it up.
