QotD: "It's a rare gift, you know, to feel reverence for your own life ... To imagine a heaven and then not to dream of it, but to demand it."

"It's a rare gift, you know, to feel reverence for your own life and to want the best, the greatest, the highest possible, here, now, for your very own. To imagine a heaven and then not to dream of it, but to demand it."

Well, I'm not one to quibble but it's not a rare gift at all. Every child has it. What's rare is to get it back or, better, not have it snatched away by the likes of government schooling.

It's often said that folk go around imposing their will on others. One point of the quote, I think, is that too many folk instead can't even impose their will on themselves -- that's the rare gift, you see, to discover who you are and to be honest to that vision over the course of a whole life.
