"When government is allowed to favour one group over another, the rich will always win, since they can 'buy' more favours than the poor." ~ Dr. Mary Ruwart

New Zealand elections have regularly disproven that theory. Whenever the rich have tried to buy an election they have failed miserably.

Buying elections is one thing--study after study shows that money tends to be irrelevant to who wins elections. The issue is the vast unelected body of government, unaccountable to voters--the millions of bureaucrats that are scuttling around various offices, all of whom provide opportunities for companies to influence policies without the general public ever knowing about it.
