It is the producers of nothing that run the world, and they are running the world into the ground.

The Greens argument for the RMA sounds OK at a glance - people should have some say about where they live, but it seems what we get is activists and busybodies protecting their ow n patch at someone else's expense. I encountered this in Christchurch post EQ when the rules prevented something that was better looking and less intrusive on locals in every way you could imagine yet had no chance in proceeding because it was a different use and the local committee of busy bodies had to approve it. The prime site is still undeveloped as far as I'm aware because all you are allowed is what no one paying for anything wants. I see no real change looming - just window dressing.

If the greens armed with the RMA, was active in NZ back in the 1800s, this country would still be an undeveloped wilderness rather than the productive country we are now.

The various NZ Nat Governments have had since the 1990's [ Bolger, Shipley, Upton and others ] when they shagged around with ' think tanks' NZ Nat Government now is as radical about the RMA as Aunt Jessica's tea party for concerned neighbours.
Nick Smith is past his use by date, and the RMA reformation will make milk sop into cheese.
The RMA should be repealed in entirety and Geoffrey Palmer should be sent to Greenland.

I doubt the Greenlanders would want him. I suggest we pack him off to enjoy the unspoiled natural beauty of the Auckland Islands.
