Boston Athletic Association president Joanne Flaminio said before the race that had a "special significance" because it was 26.2 miles long and there was 26 victims in the Newtown attack.

Update 4:07 p.m.: Newtown families were reportedly seated in the VIP section right by where the explosions went off. There's no word whether they are among the 23 injured and two dead from the explosions.

Taylor said she noticed more of a military presence when the race with 27,000 runners started.

“We noticed that they had military upon the buildings watching,” Taylor said. “I wonder if they had had some…that was kind of peculiar to me. That’s kind of weird to have military people up there with binoculars before a running event at the start.

“It just didn’t look normal. It just didn’t look normal.”

University of Mobile’s Cross Country Coach, who was near the finish line of the Boston Marathon when a series of explosions went off, said he thought it was odd there were bomb sniffing dogs at the start and finish lines.

“They kept making announcements on the loud speaker that it was just a drill and there was nothing to worry about,” Coach Ali Stevenson told Local 15. “It seemed like there was some sort of threat, but they kept telling us it was just a drill.”

Take care of the injured. Console families of those that were killed. Sit tight and let the police do their job. Wait for the facts before drawing any conclusions. Be supportive without getting in the way. Our heart goes out to the victims, and to Boston. "Do no ask for whom the bell tolls."

“You had to attack civilians, the people, women, children, innocent people, unknown people far removed from any political game. The reason was quite simple: to force . . . the public to turn to the state to ask for greater security.”

Vincent Vinciguerra, one of the perpetrators of the Operation Gladio terror attacks.
