Wowsers ganging up on Andrew Williams [update 5]

Since when did having a couple of late evening drinks and a public piss on the way home constitute grounds for resignation from anything?

It’s hardly grounds for anything, let alone news.  Who among us can't say they haven't done the same, and wouldn't again?

And why not? A few drinks after dark and a piss against a tree when you’ve finished is hardly as bad as, say, dismembering New Zealand’s major city, now is it.

So frankly, the attacks on the North Shore mayor Andrew Williams for doing what we all do looks like something of a beat up—especially when the rag this “news” appeared in is the Sunday Star Slime, and the group of Andrew Williams’ critics seem for the most part to include that group of people firmly focussed on dismemberment.

It makes you wonder what sort of opposition from Williams those Super Shitty advocates doing the beat up are expecting?

UPDATE 1:  Oh for fuck’s sake.  Bloody Farrar is now drawing little maps showing where Andrew Williams walked, and “what many may not know … that he would have actually walked past a set of public toilets” !

Wow.

Get a bloody life, David.

UPDATE 2:  Take note that the rag in which this “revelation” first featured was the the Sunday Star Slime (a tabloid in all but name), and the alleged journalist running the story is a muckraker from way back, was sacked by TVNZ for stalking another TVNZ presenter, Mike Hosking, went on to set up a website that purported to expose celebrities doing whatever celebrities do, and was most recently to be found sneaking into Eden Park posing as a terrorist (satirised so deliciously by Chris Keall at NBR). Oh, and in a previous life was best known for spying on his now employer.

UPDATE 3:

Cartoon by EMMERSON UPDATE 4:  Colin Espiner writes on ‘Fear and loathing on the North Shore’:

“I've seen a few hatchet jobs in my time covering politics, but this one takes the biscuit.
“Let me say right up front that I'm no fan of North Shore Mayor Andy Williams. He's bombastic, opinionated, shoots from the lip, and makes as many enemies as he does friends. A bit like Auckland Mayor John Banks, actually…
“But of the stitch-ups, of all the nasty, low-down, personal vendettas, of all the naked, backstabbing, below-the-belt, shin-kicking attacks, the orchestrated beat-up on Williams has me almost feeling sorry for him.”

UPDATE 5: Heh heh.  This is good satire from Imperator Fish: ‘Urinating Minister Must Go – Critics’:

“Embattled Local Government Minister Rodney Hide has refused to resign, amid claims he is drunk with power…”

And Ruth states the obvious:

“This Williams fool is far less a danger to the populace than Hide.”

The guy is a collectivist, power hungry twat though. If you don't dislike him for his public peeing and inappropriate use of a car his constituents have been forced to pay for, you'd have to hate him for his politics.

Peter Cresswell said...

But he's not being picked on for being a collectivist, power hungry twat, is he. And since that pretty much describes every mayor--and every politician--one wonders why the other collectivist, power hungry twats love attacking this one so much.

And for reasons so pathetic.

Is he that much of a threat to their plans to super-bureaucratise Auckland?

Much as I dislike Andrew Williams, my reaction was the same as yours, PC. For heaven's sake, what male uni student hasn't peed against a tree on the way home from the pub?

I know nothing about Auckland politics. Williams: part of the general wowser brigade for liquor bans or no though? The Farrar map post (besides its amusing wiggly line for a drunken walking path) noted that North Shore council website is now polling folks on whether there ought be more liquor bans. Has he had any position?

Yes Richard, but he's not a university student is he? He's the mayor, who clearly had the option of going inside the building he peed outside of. And most university students wouldn't expect the people of North Shore city to shout them a ride home when they get on the piss. And then lie about it afterwards. The fact that this guy can't even manage to get his lying hypocritcal arse over the very low bar that NZ polictians have set for themselves means he's always going to be a target for this kind of attack. And if he doesn't like it he shouldn't act like such a pompous arse all the time.

And it's very naive to think that he opposes the super city concept for the good of the people. He'd be all for it if he was the one annointed to lead it.

PC, you're telling David Farrar to get a bloody life, but that's his life, blogging. He will write about things that are mostly nonsense just to fill his blog. When he hasn't got anything insightful to write about, he attacks Labour (who cares about them, they're already out from office) or praise John Key his achievements so far such as his continuing on with Labour policies, like WFF.

If I remember the state of Auckland's public toilets correctly I think peeing on a tree would be more hygienic.

Peter Cresswell said...

@Eric: "Williams: part of the general wowser brigade for liquor bans or not?"

I couldn't tell you. I'm afraid. Although I generally assume they're all anti-fun until I discover otherwise.

@Daniel Bell: "[Given] the state of Auckland's public toilets correctly I think peeing on a tree would be more hygienic."

My thoughts--and the reasoning for my nightly programme for action--exactly.

I am not resident of North Shore City. The antics of the Mayor there is nothing to do with me. If the peeing on trees episode is the culmination of many things which piss-off his constituents he'll go at the next local body elections.

Peter Cresswell said...

Ah, Chris, maybe you haven't noticed. Courtesy of Rodney Hide, there will be no "local" body elections again in the Auckland region--just elections for Hide's new super-bureaucracy.

So Williams was out of there anyway.

Yeah he is. The fact that he gets pissed and pisses up a tree on taxpayers $$ is just another reason to take him down.

Ah, Chris, maybe you haven't noticed. Courtesy of Rodney Hide, there will be no "local" body elections again in the Auckland region

About bloody time too. What a waste of money time & effort they turned out to be...

--just elections for Hide's new super-bureaucracy.

another pointless moneywasting exercise.
The only good thing about this whole debacle are the CCOs - hopefully Hide gets them sold before scum like WIlliams or Hubbard get in charge of 'em.

So Williams was out of there anyway.

Hide should have just fired him years ago.
He's the fucking minister, he should be able to fire all the damn mayors if he wants to.

I've still no idea why we need the Mayor & wards & community boards and all the rest of that crap.
The CCOs - hopefully soon to be private - actually run the city. Why the fuck should bludgers - especially those who don't even pay rates - have a say in anything?

Blair said...

This would not be particularly unusual behaviour for a university student, $80 wine notwithstanding. If Williams was nobody, nothing other than the drunk driving would matter. But he's a middle-aged man who is the mayor - he's supposed to represent North Shore City. That should carry some dignity, and in his case it doesn't. So he should resign and he should rightly be pilloried for his bad behaviour.

I'm not a wowser. Ordinary people can get pissed and piss against a tree all they like for all I care. Elected officials should be held to a higher standard, however. And they certainly should not drink and drive.

Peter Cresswell said...

"Carry some dignity?" "Elected officials should be held to a higher standard."

What a lot of humbug! When was the last time you encountered a politician who carried themselves with "dignity"? What politicians have any standards, let alone "higher"standards?

Your mate Rodney, perhaps? Or Sir Double Dipton? OR "Hone" Carter? Or Dodger "I Think I Might Visit My Grandchildren On the Taxpayer Again" Rugless?

Higher standards, my arse. They're all scum.

But taking a piss against a tree is not grounds for resignation. It's just taking a piss against a tree.

And if you think driving after a few glasses of wine is, or should be, breaking the law, then you really are a wowser.

PC, if all politicians are scum, then what's your view when the Libz gets MPs to parliament at some stage in the future? Will those Libzs MPs be also called scum? Just curious.

Blogger Imperator Fish has a good satirical post on this...

Embattled Local Government Minister Rodney Hide has refused to resign, amid claims he is drunk with power.

Oh please! You can be damm glad its Hide in there setting it up as opposed to any National/Labour twit.

The super city was happening ANYWAY people....having Rodney in there trying his best to get it sorted with a view to doing the best by ratepayers is the BEST Libertarian option we have.

Maori seats anyone....?

You made an error. What you should have written was, "having Rodney in there trying his best to get it sorted with a view to doing the ratepayers is the BEST fascist option we have. Maori seats anyone....?"

LGM, go and stand in that corner and wank yourself there.

It's fucking idiots like you that gets the Libz a bad name.

Just because it doesn't happen doesn't mean it's not important.

Like God presenting proof of his existence Blair? Sorry, trolling...

Now, over at Farrar's the Gnats are crapping on about the Left playing down Dyson's drink driving such that she could become a minister again...
"I love the way the left have come out in force to tell is this story is no big deal, it reminds me of the way they spun the Ruth Dyson drink drive incident."

And yet ... it seems the Gnats (the chief Gnat himself in fact) are plenty ready to forgive and forget abuse of the taxpayer when it's one of their own.

No. Best you stay in your corner by yourself. I hope you don't expect your mother to mop up for you after.

You're a grub.

LGM, go and wank over there and may be you can invite your mother to come and watch you.

You have been exposed on this blog on many topics that you think you were superior to everyone's opinions, but that doesn't stop you from trying to be a MacGyver (know it all). Civil engineer Mark from the other thread has exposed you, but that didn't stop you.

Did you study economics or all you did was reading Mises website, then self elevate yourself to be an expert economist? Fuck'n stick to your area of expertise and stop trying to be a MacGyver, because you will be exposed as a liar for trying to be a know it all.
