Stop. Or not.

You want to stop smoking? Then just stop. Don't sue. Don't whimper. Don't whine. Don't bleat that you're addicted. So what. You started, so just take responsibility for yourself and stop. If you want help, give the Llama's method a crack.

And if you don't want to stop, then don't. Take responsibility for that choice too; just don't blame other people for choices that you make.

From my student days in Dunedin comes a good way of overcoming any temptation to smoke: About once a year fill an overflowing ashtray with the dregs of your jug of Speights and drink the lot down. After a hearty vomit into someone's hedge while staggering home, it's difficult to even look at a cigarette again for at least 3 months.

I remember that in a poorly-ventilated toilet outside the Engineering lecture theatre used first thing on queasy Monday mornings was a wall-hung stainless steel ash container asking for 'Smokers Please,' which had been amended to 'Smokers Pie.' Not a pretty thought.
