"Every emotion is an alert to a value at stake at this moment."

"Every emotion is an alert to a value at stake at this moment. Whatever emotion you are feeling, it is signalling that something important matters right now. Whether you gain and keep some value — or lose it or sabotage it — depends on your action in this moment. This is why it is so important to introspect your emotions. If you don't take the steps to understand them fully, you are acting with only hazy knowledge of what really matters to you. Your present and future happiness depends on your fully understanding the values that underlie your emotions."

  1. “Whatever emotion you are feeling, it is signalling that something important matters right now.”

Possibly, but not necessarily. It means either “something important matters right now.”,; OR your subconscious thinks that “something important matters right now”, but in reality it’s not important because it’s based on previous misconceptions or evolved predispositions that don’t serve you well in our modern context. It’s up to you to introspect and work out which one it is.

We welcome thoughtful disagreement.
But we do (ir)regularly moderate comments -- and we *will* delete any with insulting or abusive language. Or if they're just inane or off topic. It’s okay to disagree, but pretend you’re having a drink in the living room with the person you’re disagreeing with. This includes me.
PS: Have the honesty and courage to use your real name. That gives added weight to any opinion.
