Middle Eastern democracy, in pictures

It’s not true just for Egypt. It’s true for every Islamic nation …

which is why it’s best never to confuse democracy with freedom.

  1. Exactly right.

Democracy is not a "good fit" at all for Islamic countries as it is completely un-Islamic, being an invention of "infidels".

It is amazing that *any* Islamic country has allowed elections, because the supreme law there is supposed to be the Shari'a (which they believe to be the laws of Allah and which makes no mention of elections.)

"Democracy" in Islamic countries is very much just a tool - a "means to an end". The Muslim Brotherhood understood this very well. Use elections to get into power, then strip away everyone's rights.

What you should have written is this.

"Democracy" in all countries is very much just a tool - a "means to an end". The politicians, bureaucrats and their masters (who are not "we the people") understood this very well. Use elections to get into power, then strip away everyone else's rights.

We welcome thoughtful disagreement.
But we do (ir)regularly moderate comments -- and we *will* delete any with insulting or abusive language. Or if they're just inane or off topic. It’s okay to disagree, but pretend you’re having a drink in the living room with the person you’re disagreeing with. This includes me.
PS: Have the honesty and courage to use your real name. That gives added weight to any opinion.
