‘The Lark Ascending,’ by Ralph Vaughan-Williams

Performed here by soloist Tamsin Waley-Cohen, it’s been voted the most popular classical piece ever:

Inspired by a poem by George Meredith:

He rises and begins to round,
He drops the silver chains of sound,
Of many links without a break,
In chirrup, whistle, slur and shake.

Hear it live with the NZSO this Friday (in Wellington) or next (in Auckland), and points in-between in between.

  1. Darn. No concert in Dunedin. And what a superb version in the video.

We welcome thoughtful disagreement.
But we do (ir)regularly moderate comments -- and we *will* delete any with insulting or abusive language. Or if they're just inane or off topic. It’s okay to disagree, but pretend you’re having a drink in the living room with the person you’re disagreeing with. This includes me.
PS: Have the honesty and courage to use your real name. That gives added weight to any opinion.
