“The timorous mineral water and “better not” attitude to life rather than the “why not?” attitude seems to be among the saddest of the health postures – a loss of joy, hedonism and self=exploration.”

Quote of the day: On alcohol and joy

We welcome thoughtful disagreement.
But we do (ir)regularly moderate comments -- and we *will* delete any with insulting or abusive language. Or if they're just inane. It’s okay to disagree, but pretend you’re having a drink in the living room with the person you’re disagreeing with. This includes me.
PS: Have the honesty and courage to use your real name. That gives added weight to any opinion.
Speaking of alchohol and joy are the bloggers drinks on this Thursday?
ReplyDeleteThe same is said about vegetarians and joy in the foodie world. Not trying to be particularly argumentative, but top vege chefs like Simon Rimmer are never vege themselves.
ReplyDeleteThey claim one cannot be a food lover and be vegetarian. The loss of joy, hedonism etc etc.
I know vegetarianism is not in the legislative eye of the govt, but the point you are making still stands in respect of it.
Don't know who Simon Rimmer is, and don't know who "they" are, but I can tell you I never feel any loss of joy at not consuming dead animals.
ReplyDeleteQuite the opposite -- leaves more room for more flavours. :-)
Reality is an illusion that occurs due to the lack of alcohol.
