Brilliant?! I don't think so. Compare it to Newberry - Rockwell looks like the paint by numbers stuff I used to do as a kid. It's lifeless and certainly not great art - let alone brilliant IMO.

ReplyDeleteYes, I can see that -- and Rockwell is certainly no Newberry -- but as Nick Provenzo's analyses demonstrate, there is a world of meaning invested in Rockwell's apparently simple illustrations.
And Newberry doesn't do portraits. ;^)
