Satire is so uncool

This how freedoms go these days - not with a bang, nor with a whimper, but with a sneer. When, for instance, the Beehive Bludgers propose a ban on parliamentary TV footage being used to satirise them, to ridicule them, to denigrate them - all forms of accolade so richly deserved by the Bludgers - the media's various "cool kids" pop up as enablers, sneering at those who object to Nanny's advances.

"Leftist lickspittle" Finlay McDonald gives an object lesson here in how Nanny State has got so powerful: because "cool kids" like him just don't give a shit. Who cares about boring stuff like free speech, right? How uncool. How yesterday.

  1. Is this the same Finlay McDonald who used to edit The Listener? I guess we should be thankful he wasn't at the helm when a certain Robert David Muldoon was *cough* very far from amused by the acid-tipped rapiers of Tom Scott and Rosemary McLeod.

We welcome thoughtful disagreement.
But we do (ir)regularly moderate comments -- and we *will* delete any with insulting or abusive language. Or if they're just inane. It’s okay to disagree, but pretend you’re having a drink in the living room with the person you’re disagreeing with. This includes me.
PS: Have the honesty and courage to use your real name. That gives added weight to any opinion.
