Endowments...

"I know that if I were a rich man I would do precious little endowing institutions, and content myself with nosing out individuals of the right sort, and endowing them."
~ Albert Jay Nock from his Cogitations on 'The Individual Who Can Think and Create'

  1. I was discussing a similar topic with a mate over a beer on Thursday. Assuming we leave this life with some wealth that has to go somewhere, to whom should it go? I’m fully aware, and see examples everywhere where if you leave it to your offspring it encourages a defensive mindset in them and unwillingness to take risks that is bad for them. Struggle is necessary for us to reach our best. If you leave it to institutions a similar thing happens (look at the ARI), so that’s not the answer either. Going to government would be the absolute worst. Individuals, whether that be your offspring or others is probably the least worst, but you have to very careful how you do it, as it could end up a net bad rather than good.

We welcome thoughtful disagreement.
But we do (ir)regularly moderate comments -- and we *will* delete any with insulting or abusive language. Or if they're just inane. It’s okay to disagree, but pretend you’re having a drink in the living room with the person you’re disagreeing with. This includes me.
PS: Have the honesty and courage to use your real name. That gives added weight to any opinion.
