Quote of the day: On NZers being deported from Australia

“In previous years the deportation proceedings would have happened while the crims were in jail and then they'd be on the first plane to Auckland after the parole hearing.
“The arbitrary detention for people who have served their time, in some cases several years ago, is a genuine problem.
“Most of these people were allowed to stay on. The government changed the criteria for deportation last year so we could kick out more Muslims, and these people are caught up in that change.”

We welcome thoughtful disagreement.
But we do (ir)regularly moderate comments -- and we *will* delete any with insulting or abusive language. Or if they're just inane. It’s okay to disagree, but pretend you’re having a drink in the living room with the person you’re disagreeing with. This includes me.
PS: Have the honesty and courage to use your real name. That gives added weight to any opinion.
