He was an active opponent of the Jesus movement, being instrumental in the arrest and death of many of it's adherents. His conversion involved a repudiation of practically everything he had dedicated himself to previously. <br />Whether he saw a vision or not, these things don't just happen. The notion that he did it for fame and fortune doesn't fit with what you yourself write of his character and at any rate Christianity was a minority Jewish sect, viewed with increasing hostility by both civil and religious authorities. In terms of hitching yourself to a movement in order to line your pockets, it would be roughly akin to a NZ politician joining the Libertarianz. Suffice to say, Paul did not achieve fortune in his new career, being constantly on the move, frequently met with hostility, and largely dependent on the charity of the communities he visited; before probably being executed during the Neronian persecutions.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11906042.post-45670548161991892712014-04-16T09:14:13.929+12:002014-04-16T09:14:13.929+12:00@Anonymous: You may imagine whatever motivation yo...@Anonymous: You may imagine whatever motivation you like.
