  1. A relatively minor issue, but: A heater-gripped round shield needs to be at least twice that big to be effective. The legs of those cops are entirely exposed. This is not a small thing. A shield wall only works if it's a wall. Take out the legs of one person, and the enemy can roll push through easily. If you want to use a round shield make it center-grip (which allows you to control where the enemy's weapon is deflected); if you want a heater-grip shield use a kite shield, a heater shield, or a Roman-style scutum. We have something like 3,000 years of experience at this, and this police force chose the worst type of shields in history!

  2. You assume that the Australian police think they will have counter demonstrations. Their leaders are morning and think that they xma just send the Blackshirts around without any consequences.

They will be shown they are wrong. Those who will be destroyed are more frequently made stupid than be made mad.

    1. Not really. I'm commenting as someone who's done some Medieval martial arts. There's a right way to do these things, and I know for a fact that Australia has Medieval re-enactment groups that could show them how ridiculous and ineffective those shields are.

We welcome thoughtful disagreement.
But we do (ir)regularly moderate comments -- and we *will* delete any with insulting or abusive language. Or if they're just inane or off topic. It’s okay to disagree, but pretend you’re having a drink in the living room with the person you’re disagreeing with. This includes me.
PS: Have the honesty and courage to use your real name. That gives added weight to any opinion.
