Long to reign over our relative decline

England’s Queen is now the longest-reigning British monarch. I wouldn’t normal comment, except that Michael Reddell has compares NZ’s economic performance against the other old dominions—Canada and Australia—since her reign began. It’s a sad old tale.

In 1952 … New Zealand has (just narrowly) the highest GDP per capita of any of the three old dominions” of Canada, Australia and us.

That was in 1952.

And although the point of this post is mostly whimsical, it is hard to go by without the sad picture of New Zealand’s deep and prolonged relative decline [since].
