    "They proceed from conclusion to evidence; our greatest resource is the mind, and the mind is not well-trained by being taught to assume what has to be proved."

    "They" are those who place their destinies in faith in invisible umpires.

    Hitchens' death is truly saddening for he was a man of vision while maintaining a caustic perception of those who fail to ponder.
