They were some of my best teachers, such as the science teacher I had who, as a PhD student, had helped discover Rapid Eye Movement (REM) in sleep. The fact that he was a world-renowned scientist did not qualify him to teach science in NZ public schools. I agree completely with that assessment from the <i>Charter School Working Group</i>. I can teach math much better than seasoned math teachers with 10 years teaching experience or so (the ones who are in the union and who have protested against the establishment of charter schools recently) but I have no teaching qualification at all.<br /><br />Good on the <i>Charter School Working Group</i> for making a very sensible recommendation.
