I thought about that observation when reading a couple of articles in a recent issue of The Economist... [that suggest] Turkey seems to have done better than Sweden at integrating the immigrants. The best way for an immigrant to integrate into a new society is to work side by side with local residents... Having a Swedish-style welfare state may make that harder to do."
It is unrecognized that sole parent (or shared unemployment) benefits can cause havoc among non-western refugees. Newly-found financial 'freedom' for females can result in male on male (and male on female) domestic violence as a response to ensuing infidelities. No doubt NZ feminists would approve of this 'liberation' but the guys who end up in prison are still bewildered. And we are paying for them. I have nothing against immigrants or refugees. Welcome them. But they must fend for themselves. God knows we do not need more generations of people ruined by welfare.
We welcome thoughtful disagreement. But we do (ir)regularly moderate comments -- and we *will* delete any with insulting or abusive language. Or if they're just inane. It’s okay to disagree, but pretend you’re having a drink in the living room with the person you’re disagreeing with. This includes me. PS: Have the honesty and courage to use your real name. That gives added weight to any opinion.
