Winter Soul, by Tibor Nagy
oil on canvas, 11” x 20”

Slovakian painter Tibor Nagy has the great ability to capture scenes with dramatic, minimal brush strokes and use of the palette knife– a quick glance at his canvas shows how well he does the capture; studying more closely (like the detail of the bottom right-hand corner, below) reveals just how abstract are the rough, dramatic daubs that achieve the effect.

Brilliant stuff.

  1. Yep, great. Its a great skill creating just enough to let the eye and mind complete the details. I recall be taught how to paint grass with hardly any strokes and being both amazed delighted to see that less can be more.

We welcome thoughtful disagreement.
But we do (ir)regularly moderate comments -- and we *will* delete any with insulting or abusive language. Or if they're just inane. It’s okay to disagree, but pretend you’re having a drink in the living room with the person you’re disagreeing with. This includes me.
