Happy Rand’s Day
Oops. I forgot to mark Rand’s Day yesterday – Ayn Rand’s birthday on Feb 2nd. But since Americans are a day behind anyway, here’s one of my favourite Rand quotes…
Did Rand believe we have a soul or is that just an emotional throwaway comment from a deep thinker I perceive to be disinclined to be flippant? Very nice sculpture.
Oh, sure, but not in any supernatural sense: "That which you call your soul or spirit is your consciousness, and that which you call 'free will' is your mind’s freedom to think or not..." http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/free_will.html
"A body without a soul is a corpse, a soul without a body is a ghost..." http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/soul-body_dichotomy.html
We welcome thoughtful disagreement. But we do (ir)regularly moderate comments -- and we *will* delete any with insulting or abusive language. Or if they're just inane or off topic. It’s okay to disagree, but pretend you’re having a drink in the living room with the person you’re disagreeing with. This includes me. PS: Have the honesty and courage to use your real name. That gives added weight to any opinion.
