Happy Rand’s Day

Oops. I forgot to mark Rand’s Day yesterday – Ayn Rand’s birthday on Feb 2nd. But since Americans are a day behind anyway, here’s one of my favourite Rand quotes…

“Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swamps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists.. it is real.. it is possible.. it's yours.”

  1. Did Rand believe we have a soul or is that just an emotional throwaway comment from a deep thinker I perceive to be disinclined to be flippant? Very nice sculpture.

  2. Oh, sure, but not in any supernatural sense: "That which you call your soul or spirit is your consciousness, and that which you call 'free will' is your mind’s freedom to think or not..." http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/free_will.html

    "A body without a soul is a corpse, a soul without a body is a ghost..." http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/soul-body_dichotomy.html

We welcome thoughtful disagreement.
But we do (ir)regularly moderate comments -- and we *will* delete any with insulting or abusive language. Or if they're just inane or off topic. It’s okay to disagree, but pretend you’re having a drink in the living room with the person you’re disagreeing with. This includes me.
PS: Have the honesty and courage to use your real name. That gives added weight to any opinion.
