  3. 'Flowery' is right, albeit ironic given the state of the district when I lived in Conn. in the 80's.

    Abysmal, destitute and probably rent-controlled from A-Z ...

  5. Bouwerie is the original Dutch spelling of Bowery, the Anglicized version.
